  • At the 2018 International Travel Trade Show in Germany held in March 2018, South African Tourism CEO, Sisa Ntshona, stated that tourism is vitally important to the South African economy, and that the sector should be nurtured for sustained and inclusive growth. The tourism industry is booming but can this industry be revolutionised? Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new technology bring with it some exciting changes that could transform your travel experience, making the process easier, faster and more personalised. In South Africa, tourism contributed R136,1 billion, about 2.9% of the total gross domestic product (GDP) in 2017. When tourism’s indirect and induced benefits across a very broad value chain are factored in, the total contribution amounts to R412,5 billion, or 8.9% of the GDP.

  • The forum will address the future of the travel and tourism industry and the challenges faced in the new digital age. The discussion will highlight the significant challenges faced when it comes to human resources as the workforces become increasingly specialized. You will learn that the most effective leaders in the travel and tourism industry are those who balance the need for labour and elasticity with the constant drive toward increased productivity and innovation. The discussion will further include the fact that increasingly intelligent machines are redefining the need for human intervention and could contemplate an uncertain career where men and women are replaced by machines.
